Double Page Spread Draft

#1
This is my first draft of a double page spread. On my double page spread, I based my main topic on a new up coming R&B artist. On the first page, I placed a striking heading that catches the readers attention. I also put the name of the artist on top, so thats the first thing they know. Below I divided the page from the title and below I have the text. I have a main heading that basically sums of everything that I talk about below in more detail. On the next page I have a picture of the artist I talk about in my text. At the top of the page I have serveral pictures of the artist. Below the pictures I have more information abou the up coming artist.

#2
This is my second draft of a double page spread. On this draft the main title of these pages is '2011 Finest Chazmine', which tells the reader that the double page is about a new artist of 2011. Below the title of the page, is a heading that sums of what the text below on both pages are about. In centre of the two pages, is one big picture of the artist Chazmine. On the second page is more text that contiues from the pervious page. Below the text are more pictures, which relates to the main picture.

#3
This is my third draft of my double page spread, which is simpliar than the others. On the first page instead of text, I have pictures of four girls in a group, which contiues onto the next page. The main title of the pages is 'The New! Girls Only', which is the name of the girl group below. I have a striking heading 'The New!' which tells the reader, that the topic on this page is about someone up coming and new. Below the title, I have the main heading, which sums of the information below. Below the heading is text that goes into more detail. More below the page I have more pictures, which relates to the main piture and text to go with the pictures.

Contents Page Draft

#1
This is my first contents page draft. I decided to make the contents page very simple. On the left side of the page, I have the title 'Urban Class Contents' placed, I made the font big, so people know that its the contents page they are on. I put the page numbers at the top of the page, because that is the first thing the reader should read. Below I have a picture of two people, so my contents page doesn't look boring and fulled up with text.  Next to the photo, I have text that talk about the top stories that the reader may be interested in and with the text, comes with the page number.

#2

This is my second contents page darft. I also have kept this design simple. I have 'Media Makeup Contents' at the top of the page in the centre, to show that this is the main text of the page and what the page is about.  Below the title, I have the page numbers of the different pages I have in my magazine. On the right hand side of the page numbers I have a sub-heading called features, and below that are more page numbers with a bit more text, which talk about the more interesting topics in my magazine. Below on the left hand side of the page, I have another sub-heading which list different interviews that are in my magazine, which provides rthe page number also. I drew a picture of a person below, to make my contents page abit less boring and not 100% writing.

#3
This is my third contents page darft. This time I made the fonts bigger and more interesting. I have 'Music Mayhem Contents' at the top of the page and has a more larger font size than the other text on the page. Below the page title on the left hand side of the page, I placed the page numbers going straight down the page in a colunm. Beside it, more on the right hand side of the page, I split the page in half, with a sub-heading callled 'Features' and the second half with a sub-heading called "Interviews'. I also made a little section, where I will have images relating to the pages.

Front Cover Draft

#1
This is my first magazine front cover design. I chose the name Urban Class because, the genre of music that my magazine is about is very urban, R&B, hip hop and rap. I chose this deign because I liked the idea of having two people on my front cover, male and female, the male dressed in street fashion e.g. tracksuit, trainers, cap, ect. The female dressed in a street fashion also but in a classy style, trousers, top, shoes etc. At the bottom of the front cover, I want a banner going horiztontally across the page, with music artist names on it, to show what artists are featured in my magazine. I also have a space underneath the banner of a playlist, listed inside the magazine, I used a bigger font, so it will catch the readers eye. My background of my magazine has stripes because I didn't just want a plain background, so I added stripes to make my magazine background interesting.

#2
This is my second magazine front cover design. This time I chose a different name because I wanted several names that I can choose for my final design. I chose the name Music mMyhem because, since it is a music magazine I am producing, I decided to combine music into my magazine name, so the reader has a idea of what my magazine is about. The mayhem is just a word that sounds catchy with the word music. I decided to have a boy as front cover image because I felt that the name of my magazine, relates to a boy, because mayhem, in other words is means crazy. I drew headphones on the boys head because it shows that he is listening to music and enjoys music. As my cover lines I used catchy headings and R&B and hip hop artist that people like to listen to and see on tv the most. My cover kubes are different from normal music magazine because  I wanted them to catch the readers attention. So I used a different fonts styles and size.

#3
This is my third music magazine front cover design. I chose my magazine name as Media Makeup because in my magazine I talk about what type of music and style is shown around the music and entertainment industry. So in my music magazine I write about what the medua talks and makes up about the music industry, mainly around R&B, hip hop and rap. I chose to have a girl as my front cover photo, because her style goes with the name of the magazine. She will be dressed in a up to date trend, that every teenage girl is wearing. My cover lines are catchy and are about gossip and lastest trends that people are interested in. This is just a ruff idea, but on my final design it will have more coverlines and alot more details, like barcode etc.

Profiling Your Audience

The Media Makeup READER - Chazmine, 16, is a girl that keeps up with the latest trends. For example things like fashion, music, gossip, celebrities etc. She lives in a very urban area in southeast London and goes to college, and she is currently studying sociology, textiles and photography.  The type of music that is talked about around her local area is R&B, Hip Hop and Rap music. These genres of music influence Chazmine a lot, for example the latest fashion trend her favourite celebrity is wearing.  Also the genre of music influences the way she speaks to her family, friends etc. When she is out with her friends, the main topic that they always talk about is music, their favourite artist, latest music releases etc. She likes to buy music magazines such as The Source, Vibe etc, which tells her the latest gossip on celebrities, new fashion trends and also advice that she may find useful to her.
I would develop my magazine to attract Chazmine by using popular music artist such as Rihanna, Drake, Lil Wayne, BeyoncĂ© etc to attract Chazmine because I know she likes these artists and would like to know latest information about them. Also I would add a fashion page, which shows pictures of celebrity fashion and also street, urban fashion, which more relates to her and other girls like her. Also I’ll talk about what type of fashion is in, for teenage girls and young adults and where they can buy these clothing from, for an affordable price. I would also add in my magazine up coming songs, latest song releases and albums, that would attract Chazmine to buy it.

Textual Analysis

VIBE

Denotation
On the magazine front cover it consists of a colour medium close up photograph of a woman. It’s a close up shot showing only the head down to a bit of her shoulder. You can see her hand, which is touching one side of her cheek. The background of the photograph is a bright turquoise colour. The background colour covers the whole magazine cover. The colour is very vibrant and eye catching; it almost reminds me of the summer season. Yellow and white is used for the text on the magazine. These two colours stand out from the background colour. The colours of the cover line kind of tell me that it maybe a summer edition, as yellow represents the colour of the sun representing spring and summer. The cover lines that are in yellow show me that, that topic is more important, it’s meant to catch the reader’s eye. The photograph of the woman, which is Amber Rose, is very clear, she almost reminds me of a mannequin, because she looks very stiff in the photograph. The name of the magazine “VIBE” is behind the woman head.

Vibe’s masthead is very big and bold. The size of the font is very large, which indicates that it is the name of the magazine. The colour is white which doesn’t clash with the background colour. We can’t really see where she is looking because the sunglasses cover her eyes, but by looking at her facial expression she is probably looking at the camera.

College Magazine

Introduction

Im Chantelle Cole and I am a first year student at Christ the King Sixth Form College.
I created this blog to post all my media coursework, for my teacher and other media students to view my work.
